Marmalade Library, 280 W 500 N

  • Multipurpose Room (on the second floor)

The Sessions: embodied community gatherings

Listening | Moving | Dreaming

Moving Sessions: a space to explore motion and dance. Moving Sessions are open-level dance classes hosted on the first and third Tuesday of each month. In contrast to a traditional dance technique class, Moving Sessions are focused not on codified shapes and styles, but instead on the connection between body and mind. Using improvisation-based prompts, individuals are encouraged to let imagination guide their bodies through new and unexpected movement pathways. We all have bodies that move and think and dance – Moving Sessions are meant as an open, playful, imaginative space to deepen your relationship with your body and how it moves.

The Sessions: embodied community gatherings

Listening | Moving | Dreaming

Dreaming Sessions: a space to imagine and converse. We gather together once a month on the new moon to talk, release our dreams into the collective (un)consciousness, and allow creativity to emerge.

And you ghosts rise blue (NC)

IAC is thrilled to be returning to Durham to perform our opera And you ghosts rise blue at an exciting new venue in town, Live at Bay 7. Enter the Rift with us…

Interdisciplinary Arts Collective presents And you ghosts rise blue – an experimental pasticcio opera in three acts. Join us for the evening as we weave movement, sound, and light to open a rift in the space-time continuum and call in voices past and future, real and unreal. The voices – sounding alongside a collaborative collective of dancers, musicians, poets, actors, and visual artists – form a ghostly chorus with whom we sing of the ephemeral, the infinite, and the im/possible.

7:30pm, February 18 | Bay 7, American Tobacco Campus

Tickets are pay-what-you-can, with a suggested donation of $20. Register here!

Accessibility Notes:

  • Runtime: approximately 70 minutes

  • This performance makes use of strobe lights, long periods of blackout, and some moments of intense sound. The libretto is performed in English, Farsi, French, Italian, and Spanish, with supertitles projected in English.

  • The house opens at 6pm with a gallery installation in the upstairs Reading Room.

  • Please join us for a reception after the performance.

  • Live at Bay 7 is a fully accessible venue.

IAC at Little Stages

The Blocks Arts District’s Co-Create initiative is collaborating with Yardwork Presents for Little Stages - the debut of new modular 4’×4’ micro-stages tucked between 100 S & 200 S where dancers, musicians, and street performers will bring downtown to life—one small stage at a time. And we’ll be there!

Interdisciplinary Arts Collective is alchemizing the Little Stages into little worlds. Over the course of a 45-minute performance, audience members can explore the new galaxy dotted across Main Street as constellations of artists use music, movement, and poetry to shape and embody landscapes of sand, metal, growing vines, toxic sludge, and scraps of paper.

Catch our set from 4:30-5:30pm, then stick around to see Battery Percussion Ensemble and Taku Ishikawa & co.

Thursday, October 9. Between 100 S and 200 S on Main Street. Free and open to the public, come and go as you please!
